On Wednesday, we headed to the Kauffman Center for the KC Symphony‘s fall performance titled “Out of This World!” The program was focused on music that represented space, stars, planets, and clouds. The performance began with Also Sprach Zarathrusta, better known as the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey. From there, we heard the music of clouds paired with a beautiful video showing clouds form which was very soothing and peaceful, followed by “Jupiter” by Holst (which some of us recognized from commercials). We sang along to “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and listened to Mozart’s variations on the song before transitioning to the hauntingly beautiful “Musica Celestis” by Kernis. The performance ended with a crowd favorite, the theme from Star Wars.

As always, we had an amazing time listening to the Symphony. Our families really appreciate being able to bring the kids to a live performance, which definitely enhances our homeschooling experiences. Many thanks to the Symphony for another great program!
