Flagg Coal 0-4-0 saddle tank steam locomotive No. 75, also known as “HANK” will visit the Midland Railway during Railfest 2013, Labor Day weekend August 30-September 2nd, 2013. Visitors will be able to run the locomotive part as part of the railway’s “At the Throttle” program.

Midland Railway visitors will be able to purchase a 30-minute session at the throttle of No. 75. After a half hour safety and operation session, you can take the throttle along with a qualified engineer in the cab. Participants must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and sign a release form. Clothing appropriate to a working rail yard should be worn at all times, such as Jeans or overalls, work style boots (no open toe or tennis shoes), long sleeved shirt, and gloves are required. Sessions are $150 for each participant. Please visit the Railway’s website for more details.

The Midland Railway operates excursion trains on a line originally constructed in 1867. Train rides feature an over-20-mile round trip from Baldwin City via “Norwood, Kansas” to Ottawa Junction, Kansas, traveling through scenic Eastern Kansas farmland and woods via vintage railway equipment.
