KC Ballet: Wizard of Oz

We headed back to Kauffman Center for the world premiere of the Wizard of Oz, performed by the Kansas City Ballet. The ballet production of The Wizard of Oz is a joint commission by Colorado Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, and Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

While most of us know the story, the choreography by Septime Webre has turned it into a beautiful and powerful dance performance. Though the set was spare, it did not detract from the beauty of the dancing; if anything, it concentrated focus on the dancers and the story they spun for the audience. The special effects enhanced the dancing, and the puppetry for Toto was flawless. The kids were spellbound throughout the performance, and had so much to say about it afterwards!

This was a must-see performance, and we send a huge “thank you” to the ballet for scheduling a school matinee. We enjoyed every minute of it!
