On Tuesday we attended a performance of “Starring Abe Lincoln” at Theatre for Young America. This performance was a warm, funny and interesting history of Abe Lincoln’s life, and was both entertaining and informative. We learned about how Lincoln enjoyed jokes and stories, his feud with the only man he thought was uglier than himself, his first love, Ann Rutledge, his attempts at running a store, and the purchase he made that ultimately changed the direction of his life. The kids especially enjoyed the raucous political stumping, complete with staged heckling and tussling between a Lincoln supporter and the “sawdust brained” heckler in the crowd. Overall, it was a celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s life in a way that is uncommon, but wonderfully done.
