On Monday we visited Prairie Fire Museum for the new Dinosaurs exhibit. We began our tour in the Discovery Room, which is a huge favorite with the kids. The kids enjoyed the regular hands on activities, as well as the additional activities that went along with the Dinosaurs exhibit. The kids would have happily stayed longer if the museum allowed it! However, we had dinosaurs to see, so off we went.
The exhibit itself was very interesting, with a good mix of hands on activities and displays. The kids enjoyed seeing the casts of the skulls, the enormous sizes of the footprints, and the scale of the various dinosaurs both large and small.
After the exhibit, our museum guide gave us an impromptu tour of the photo exhibit “Wild Horses of Sable Island” by Roberto Dutesco. The beautiful photos of the wild horses on an island off Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada would be a hit with any child (or adult) who loves horses, especially if they enjoyed the book “Misty of Chincoteague” by Marguerite Henry.
If you have not yet visited the Dinosaurs exhibit or the Wild Horses photo exhibit, it is worth the time to attend. Thanks again to the wonderful staff at the museum for helping us arrange a great visit!
We enjoyed seeing dinosaurs both large…
Skull and bone examples. The open-air pieces are plaster casts; the valuable originals are encased in glass.
A variety of footprints – look at the size!
We are looking forward to our next tour at Prairie Fire of the upcoming “Horses” exhibit, expected in mid-fall.
