On Wednesday we went to the Carlsen Center at Johnson County Community College to watch a live performance of “My Father’s Dragon” based on the book of the same name by Ruth Stiles Gannett. A classic of children’s literature, the story of Elmer Elevator and his adventures as he rescues a dragon from Wild Island is both imaginative and heart-warming. The performers from Enchantment Theatre Company used costumes, puppets, a limited number of props and a beautifully spare stage to present the story, without interfering with the imaginations of the kids in the audience.
Enchantment Theatre Company presented it as a “no shushing” show, which meant the kids were free to clap, laugh, cheer and gasp as loudly as they wished without concern for interrupting the show. This performance was beautifully done, and the kids had a wonderful time.
Many thanks to JCCC for once again providing quality children’s theatre! We look forward to our next visit!
